VOLUNTEER

Volunteers play a vital role at Women’s Place of South Niagara Inc. We appreciate your interest in volunteering with us!.
 
Committed, experienced and passionate volunteers are needed in a wide range of capacities, from in-house shelter work to administrative tasks, to community-based initiatives such as fundraising and public education.

In-house shelter work in Niagara Falls or Welland could include:

  • Spending time with clients and their children
  • Doing child and youth programming
  • Doing clerical work (e.g., answering telephones)
  • Organizing donations
  • Doing household tasks (e.g., grocery shopping and light maintenance)

Community-based work could include:

  • Serving on our board, helping to direct the overall activities of Women’s Place
  • Delivering public education about Women’s Place and fighting abuse
  • Helping with fundraisers through event organization, promotion, administrative support, hospitality and/or registration

Administrative tasks on a year ‘round basis could include:

  • Filing and Typing

Criteria for volunteering 

In order to be accepted as a volunteer with us, you must:

  • Attend all sessions of the training program for your chosen role
  • Be mature with a non-judgmental attitude
  • Sign a volunteer confidentiality agreement
  • Undergo a criminal record check
  • Respect women’s rights regarding life choices

    Note: If you’ve been in an abusive relationship yourself, you need to have been out of this relationship for at least two years before applying to become an in-house volunteer.
    Community-based volunteers should wait one year before applying.

Information and training sessions are held on a regular basis to help prepare you for your challenging yet satisfying volunteer role.
