Witnessing or experiencing abuse is traumatic. We can help you and your children deal with and heal from the trauma you’ve experienced.
Mothers and children who stay at one of our two emergency shelters also receive orientation to the shelter environment. Separate recreation areas are available for children and teens, and craft supplies are available for times Mom is busy in the kitchen or on the telephone. As part of children’s orientation to the shelter, they receive basic information about staying with us as well as a welcome package including writing paper, envelopes and a stuffed animal or doll that they pick out. As well, the Child Youth Advocate asks what things can help make the shelter stay more comfortable and fun for each child. Reminder: You don’t need to stay at one of our shelters to access our free, confidential child and youth services. Simply call our 24-hour Crisis Line at one of the telephone numbers shown elsewhere on this page. We will be glad to discuss any concerns you might have and talk with you about next steps.
