- Children's lives are traumatized by exposure to abusive environments. Their witnessing of violence is, in and of itself, a form of victimization, which in certain instances perpetrates the cycle of violence.
- The needs of children witnessing assault are specific and distinct from those of their parents.
- Wife abuse and other forms of violence against women are a societal problem - not a private matter.
